CASE STUDY

Creamy timber windows and smooth bifolding doors

When you have a property packed to the rafters with period features and picture-perfect views, there is only one choice when it comes to replacement windows and doors – it has to be timber!

Maltings Farm is a gorgeous character cottage that is full of country charm. Situated about 10 miles from Bury St Edmunds, in a traditional farming community, the property has been home to its current owners for the past 16 years. Since it retains many of its original features including exposed oak beams and fireplaces, the owners, Mr and Mrs Walshe knew they had to do justice to the building when it came to replacing the old, worn-out timber windows and doors.

“We always intended to have wooden windows, nothing else would have been right,” said Mrs Walshe.

Choosing a supplier

Having researched different companies, the couple opted for Excell Timber Windows.

“We really liked Sam’s approach, he was professional and knowledgeable,” said Mrs Walshe.

Sam from Excell visited Mr and Mrs Walshe at their home and discussed their requirements. He also invited them to the showroom in Bury St Edmunds where they could test out some of the products. Impressed with the  quality of the products; which are manufactured by George Barnsdale in nearby Lincolnshire and Sam’s approach, the couple placed their order. They opted for a range of timber flush casement windows, a set of french doors, a set of bifolding doors and an inward opening entrance door.

All products were painted in cream (RAL 9001) with hardware from the Foundry collection including black peardrop handles on the windows and Avon handles on the doors. Double-glazed throughout and secured by design, the windows and doors are also performing exceptionally well.

“The house is much warmer and quieter than before,” Mrs Walshe said.

The addition of trickle vents has enabled gentle ventilation whilst maintaining the security of the building, something the owners have found particularly helpful.

One aspect of the project that particularly impressed Mrs Walshe was the installation process.

“The guys were professional, clean and tidy and paid real attention to detail,” she said.
